Supplementary application of deuterium depletion can drastically reduce tumor mortality

Scientists of HYD LLC for Cancer Research and Drug Development published their latest results in Biomedicines, a renowned international scientific journal. These results showed that reduction of the deuterium, aka. heavy hydrogen, level of the body, when applied as supplementary therapy in tumorous diseases, can substantially increase the survival chance of cancer patients and reduce cancer mortality by 75-80 %. The results presented in the paper were made available by Science Featured to a broader audience interested in science. This Canadian platform aims to share significant breakthroughs and advances of science, gathering content worldwide from high-ranking universities and research institutes. The HYD scientists’ paper was chosen from several ten thousand publications. In the paper, cancer researchers of HYD processed data of 2,649 tumor patients in a follow-up study, with life expectancy as primary endpoint. Supplementary application of deuterium-depleted water (DDW) increased the patients’ life expectancy severalfold. Median survival time was 11.6 years when the criteria given in the paper were met, which was a nearly fivefold increase compared to the 2.4 years median survival of the Hungarian cancer population. The most important result of the study is that supplementary application of deuterium depletion could reduce of cancer deaths by 75-80 % globally. This means that the actual Hungarian cancer mortality of 33 thousand per year could be brought down to 6-9 thousand. Besides reducing cancer mortality, supplementary application of DDW could significantly contribute to increasing life expectancy and prevention of tumorous diseases. The European Research Executive Agency subsidies the commencing research program Aqua-Synapse with 763,600 EUR. The program aims to examine the effects of deuterium-depleted water on brain functions and neural networks, and the connections of these with depression, metabolic diseases, obesity, and aging. HYD LLC for Cancer Research and Drug Development, as member of the European consortium, participates in the program in which Oxford University also plays a major role.

 

The aim of the international consortium for implementation of the program, starting in January 2023, is to reveal the exact mechanism of the biochemical, genetic and physiological processes evoked by deuterium-depleted water by target-oriented research based on the available results of research on deuterium depletion, and to determine the optimal deuterium concentration for the organism regarding health preservation. Other participants of the project, besides HYD LLC for Cancer Research and Drug Development, are the Lusofona University and the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Lisbon, the Würzburg University Hospital, and the Dutch biotechnology company Neuroplast B.V.. Laboratory capacity and research equipment will be provided for the participating institutions and scientists by the Oxford University, so they can investigate metabolic processes of neurons by a top-level imaging technology based nuclear magnetic resonance of deuterium, also used by the Departments of Pharmacology, Chemistry, and Physiology of the said university.

 

The biologist Dr. Gábor Somlyai, and HYD LLC (celebrating its 30^th anniversary in 2023) did pioneering work in investigation of the biological and physiological role of naturally occurring heavy hydrogen or deuterium. The financing awarded by the Research Executive Agency also shows the medical importance of the process based on deuterium depletion. HYD LLC is going to continue the antitumor research and drug development based on deuterium depletion. A human clinical study involving lung cancer patients is planned, to which further EU subsidies will be applied for.

Scientists at HYD LLC for Cancer Research and Drug Development contributed to the development of this research field with two scientific papers containing their latest results. In the paper published on 8 April 2021 in the journal PLOS One, results of investigating the effect of presence of deuterium (D) on mutation frequency of cells were presented. The results showed 0.663-fold decrease of mutation rate in three different Escherichia coli strains under low D (2 ppm) conditions. The conclusion of the paper is that presence of D has no deterministic effect on mutation frequency but may influence the probability of mutations to occur.

The paper published on 24 March 2021 in Cancer Control summarizes the results related to the effect of deuterium depletion on pancreatic tumors. The published results showed that deuterium depleted water dose-dependently inhibited the growth of cultured MIA PaCa-2 pancreatic tumor cell line in vitro and increased the expectable median survival time of pancreatic tumor patients severalfold in a human retrospective clinical study.

The Bioinnovation Summit was held on 14-15 November 2020 in Hanghzou, China, placing pharmaceutical innovation with technological integration in its focus. The organizers invited guests from the fields of biotechnology, pharma industry and health care. The summit had nearly one thousand participants, on site at the conference facility of Hangzhou International Expo Center, and via the online platform. Gábor Somlyai, as invited participant, presented a pre-recorded lecture (because of the pandemic) at the conference. His lecture comprised first of all the physiological regulatory role of naturally occurring deuterium, the achievements of investigation and clinical application of deuterium depletion up to now, and the present state of drug development based on deuterium depletion, but also mentioned that the HYD Group awaits investors and pharma industrial strategic partners, with whose cooperation clinical tests of deuterium depletion can be continued and drug development based on deuterium depletion can be accelerated. With the results presented in the lecture, Dr. Somlyai confirmed that tumor mortality can be reduced by up to 60-70% by application of deuterium depletion.

Dr. Gábor Somlyai, general director and chief scientist of HYD Pharma and HYD LLC for Cancer Research and Drug Development had a lecture on 12 November at the Oncology Investors’ Conference in New York on the HYD group, on research results in deuterium depletion, as well as on the potential therapeutic applications of the procedure and the pharmaceutical development based on that.

The conference was organized with the support of the American National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) on 12-13 November. Its aim was to generate connections between venture capital investors in life sciences and oncology, top managers of the pharma industry, and representatives of oncological startup companies and anticancer foundations, so they can discuss possibilities of investment into oncological research and development, and international trends of development.

NCR was founded in 1973, with the Hungarian Noble laureate Albert Szent-Györgyi as one of the founders. Aim of the foundation is to support anticancer research, to promote information of the public for prevention and early diagnosis. NCFR is committed to research efforts that can promote more efficient cancer therapy, supports cooperation of scientists, and contributes to dissemination of oncological innovations.

Leading experts of deuterium depletion discussed the last results in this field of research at the 4th International Congress on Deuterium Depletion on 17-18 October 2019 in Budapest. Participants from renowned institutions, such as the University of California Los Angeles (USA), Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, or Lomonosov University in Moscow, gave lectures at the conference.

The two days event provided an especial opportunity for domestic and international representatives of medicine and science to learn the newest results of international investigation of deuterium depletion – a field of research based in a Hungarian discovery – and to establish new, boundary-crossing research cooperation programs.

Gábor Somlyai, the internationally renowned leading researcher of deuterium depletion, was invited lecturer at the 34th Euro-Global Summit on Cancer Therapy & Radiation Oncology Conference held on 25 to 27 July 2019 in London, and gave an oral presentation entitled „Hydrogen/Deuterium ratio is a key regulator of energy production and cell proliferation – submolecular dimensions of drug development”.

At the conference, the latest results of cancer research and novel therapeutic strategies were presented. The invitation is a major acknowledgment of the nearly 30 years work of the Hungarian scientist in the field of physiological effects of deuterium, and opens up the chances of further international research cooperation.
